As one of our five core values, Beta Theta Pi takes the cultivation of the intellect very seriously and seeks to reward men in the community for sharing this value. It is our duty as college men to promote academic excellence and to ensure that those around us do the same. Understanding the value of academics, Beta Theta Pi promises to reward incoming freshmen for their dedication to academics and their success in high school. It is for this reason that the brothers of the Eta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at John Carroll University established the Men of Principle Scholarship in 2008. This scholarship rewards one incoming male freshman each year for his prior dedication to academic excellence and involvement in his respective community. Naturally, the process of learning is much more dynamic than simply grades and takes place both inside and outside of the classroom, which is why we decided to examine one's community involvement in addition to his academic successes. The scholarship was designed to reflect the kind of men our chapter wants to recruit, but it also reflects our values as a whole. Beta Theta Pi takes pride in leading men of principle to a principled life, and this scholarship exemplifies our mission as a fraternity.
